Attacks in Anbar province are down by 2/3 and attacks are down significantly in Baghdad as well.
Considering that the full strength of the surge will not even be felt until the fall, to call it anything but a huge success is just a bald faced, partisan lie. CHECKMATE.
The success of the surge should not come as a surprise to anyone. As Max Boot points out;
Since February, General David Petraeus and his team in Baghdad have been implementing classic counterinsurgency precepts that have worked wherever they have been tried in adequate strength over a sustained period of time--from the Philippines and South Africa in the early 1900s to Malaya in the 1950s, El Salvador in the 1980s, and Northern Ireland in the 1990s.
The question that keeps me awake at night is how on earth someone could be so immoral, so crass, so disgustingly blood-thirsty, that they would want it to fail. I am again, confronted by the conclusion that some people are just evil. It really isn't anymore complicated than that.
There is no question which side is which. On one side, are the good people of Iraq (along with brave soldiers from America, Great Britain, Australia and other countries) fighting for freedom and democracy, and, on the other side, are terrorist barbarians supplied, aided, armed and funded by Iran and Syria. To conquer such animalistic evil is not a Conservative issue or a Republican issue, or even an American issue. It is a simple case of basic humanity. To support or pull for that side is simple, unvarnished, indefensible evil.
True evil exists in this world, believe me, I have seen it. I have seen true cowardice as well. Not surprisingly, the practitioners of one are usually the practitioners of the other because both rise from an inherent selfishness.
So, it makes perfect sense that those who are still rooting against the coalition, and the Iraqi people, are evil cowards. Fortunatly, history is full of examples where evil cowards are defeated. Today will be no different.
