In the early going of a 1985 race at Talladega Superspeedway, much of the competition thundered around the 2.66 mile hi-banked tri-oval at well over 200 miles per hour while the best car at the track sat helplessly on pit road. Victim to an oil hose issue in his #9 Coors, Ford Thunderbird, Bill Elliott could only watch as his team worked frantically and him and his car fell 2 laps (more than 5 miles) off the pace.

Then, the impossible happened.

Problem fixed, the #9 car hit the track, and began cutting through the field like the other cars were in reverse. Without Benefit of a caution flag, Elliott passed 42 other cars to get his car into the position of being 1 lap down.

Still no caution flag.

Elliott's charge continued, undeterred. He, again, looped all 42 cars to get back onto the lead lap.

Still, no caution flag waved.

Then Bill Elliott did the unthinkable. At a track where front straightaway speeds approached 220 miles per hour, Elliott again, worked his way up through the entire field to win the race.

In the time time it took 2nd place racer Cale Yarborough to cover 439 miles, Awesome Bill Elliott covered more than 444....all, under the green flag. It is, to this day, considered the single most amazing feat in the history of motorsports.

In the race for the White House, we may have to depend on a similar miracle. The best car in the bunch is sitting in the pits while Obama and Hillary are turning it into a campaign finance laugher. Just as there is no telling how much further behind Bill Elliott could have fallen that spring day and still won, we can only wonder how much further behind the Republican field can fall before victory, by anyone, is just impossible.

Here are the very alarming facts. Since the beginning of the year, Democrat candidates have raised almost $43 million more than their Republican counterparts. In fact, in the latest quarter, the top two Democrats raised just a hair shy of TWICE what the top two Republicans raised ($59 million to $31 million).

Simply stated, if Thompson doesn't get in now, we may very well be looking at an electoral rout of Reaganesque proportions. Crossposted on the Thompson Gunners.

231 years ago today, a radical experiment was undertaken. Could a free people govern themselves in a representative republic that allowed all free peoples to express individual views in a way that respects the views of others? The experiment has gotten mixed reviews.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the grand design put forth by these giants were as brilliant as they were audacious but there is, as with anything, an Achilles heal. You see, my friends, the machinery of our republic is only as good as those who control the levers. That is the levers pulled by the men and women who make our laws and the levers pulled to put them in that position.

Every Democracy or Representative Republic is doomed when it becomes overtaken by those that put their own gain above the public good. Those may be the minority in our society but they are the most politically active and energized. They need nothing, in their quest for power but an ignorant and apathetic electorate.

Unfortunately, they have one.

The same President (the current one) has been ranked the entire span from 1st to 42nd among our 43 Presidents. 1st to 42nd! Of course, President Bush deserves neither position in my view, the argument as to where he will wind up is one for history, not for me. (Although I am certain he will wind up with a single digit ranking). The point I make is that when the same person gets reelected with a record shattering 62 million votes and then, a scant 18 months later, is the second most unpopular President in history, we have evidence of a disengaged, gullible and easily manipulated electorate.

This- not global warming, not Islamic fascism and not the border- is the single biggest threat to our way of life. We die, not from a terror attack or receding glaciers or an ICBM but from rust and decay and cancer. A Republic that doesn't take itself seriously can hardly be expected to be taken seriously by other nations.

Our great country has been taken over be people that neither know her nor love her, and we, the apathetic majority are to blame.

In the time that A Newt One has been online (in it's various forms and presentations), we have sought to do two things-

  1. inform.
  2. energize/encourage

During that time, we have been viciously attacked by enemies too cowardly to show their faces, who have had two diametrically opposed motivations-

  1. mislead.
  2. demoralize/intimidate.

It is, in a nutshell, a classic story line of life. The motivated, responsible citizen who works within the larger framework of justice and the bully who attempts to take by force.

At the heart of every bully is a coward. Afraid of rejection, afraid of surviving on his own lack of skills and knowledge, afraid of living in a world where he is isolated.
In the bully, cowardice is turned inward and manifests itself by an over compensation of aggression. The aggression doesn't erase the cowardice, it merely masks it.

The coward still remains.

Legend says that Alexander the Great cried because there were no worlds left to conquer. For all his savagery and murder, Alex was still a coward. His quest for fulfillment was still unsatisfied.

The modern day Alexander the Great permeates our society. His lives to hate. Not by principle is he driven to hate, as if the hate subsides if the principle is justified in his eyes. No. By hate is he motivated. The principle is merely a facade.

Lately, some have said that A Newt One has strayed from her moorings of addressing the issues of the day by entering into some personal vendettas. I want to personally apologize to each and every one of you if that is the case. You have come to trust ANO to address the issues of the day and we would never want to violate that trust.

The latest attacks against us have received the same response as the previous ones. The cyber bullies tried to push us around and got slapped down into their place.

I was slandered by one of these cyber punks who accused me of lying. One thing I can tell you about myself, Jimmy Z, Darter, Irate Nate, Robert, Chris and the rest of those who have been associated with this blog is that we never lie. Ever.

If I publish something on this blog and represent it as the truth, you can consider it certified fact. Our reputation has been built on telling it like it is every single day.

There has been a lot of huff and bluff about slander lawsuits against me for one specific claim about a comment made on a (now defunct) blog talk radio program. A Newt One has a responsibility to ourselves, and to you, our subscribers and readers, to defend the integrity of this blog. As of this writing, on our nation's birthday, 12 people have refuted Jim Stach's claim. That is more than enough to support a slander lawsuit against him. Sadly, I seriously doubt that 12 will be the final number.

Jim Stach has been arrested in the past. This has been established as fact. I said arrested, I never said convicted. Can I prove his guilt? No. Am I confident that his guilt will be proven?
Let me just say this. In six years of blogging, I have never had the overwhelming response to a post that I have had to some of our recent posts. The almost universal revulsion for, and hatred of, Jim Stachowiak is almost unprecedented in my life.....I have to say almost.

That is a sad an ugly truth but also a hopeful one. Is there a resurgence of civic minded patriots, determined to act in the public good? Maybe my fears were overstated.

We, here at A Newt One, renew our commitment to you, our viewers, to bring you insightful commentary, analysis and entertaining content.

This matter was about simple self defense, and the defense of the honor of some wonderful people like Chris, Jenna and Robert.

As a group, we are now very, very seriously contemplating not only civil action, but criminal prosecution of this cyber swine for his continued vicious attacks on ourselves, our families and our (ever growing) circle of friends.

I would think Jim Stach's cup of problems is full enough. We will say no more about this and will be watching very closely to see if his actions warrant clemency on our part.

To all 0f you, a very happy 4th and please continue to count on us among the voices of reason and sanity in a crazy world.
