Today, as I reviewed structural as-built plans with an engineer with one of the premiere Structural Engineering firms in the Northeast, we discussed the World Trade Center collapse. Like every other Structural Engineer I have spoken with (dozens of them), he said that there is no doubt that the collapse of the twin towers and building #7 were a classic 'pancake' collapse.
In fact, he made 3 points that bear repeating here;
- The Presiding Chief of the firm took 5 seconds to identify the collapse of the South Tower as a pancake collapse.
- Not a single licensed Structural engineer anywhere has disputed the pancake explanation and none ever will.
- Bin Laden had 5 years to determine how to bring the buildings down and knew exactly how they would fall.
