Question: What do the following names have in common?
Paul Tsongas, Gary Hart, Edmund Muskee, Estes Kefauver, John McCain, Pat Buchanan, and Henry Cabot Lodge.
Answer: All 7 won the New Hampshire Primary but failed to win the nomination of their party.
So, to make the argument that this candidate or that one must win New Hampshire to be competitive is just nonsense. However, failing to win New Hampshire is one thing, getting drubbed there is something else.
The latest polling for Fred Thompson in New Hampshire is not just bad, it is horrendous. That is why Thompson has basically moved to Iowa. I used to think that a 3rd place finish in Iowa would be enough to keep Thompson alive, through New Hampshire, to South Carolina. Now, I am thinking that he needs to finish 2nd. I think he can.
I know money is tight this time of year but I am sending Fred another check today. I am asking you to do the same. Let's get Fred past Romney into 2nd in Iowa. Then Fred and Huckabee can duke it out in South Carolina and beyond and may the best man win.
