ANOTHER SPEARS FRENZY

Jimmy Z -  I am not hoping for this, you understand. I would like to see anyone get off the dope and straighten up. But Britney Spears is headed for an early grave.

However, the sickest part about the story is that the entertainment news industry (yes, it is a huge industry now) would love to see that. They feed off of Ms. Spears disasters.  They make their money - enormous sums of it - from her many ongoing troubles. Did you see the paparazzi outside of the ambulance taking her away last night? They have zero respect for anyone famous. Swarming all over the ambulance, they obviously didn’t care about her condition.

I don’t know if you realize that over the last ten years, the entertainment/gossip industry has become terribly cynical, nasty, aggressive and confrontational. The television program TMZ is an example of this grungy attitude.

It’s not about just reporting on what happens to the rich, famous and wealthy, but the business has now morphed into using anything the entertainment reporters can get their hands on against the rich and famous, to insult them, laugh at them, and celebrate their troubles.

I am not offering undue compassion for Ms. Spears. She’s got real problems and most of them are her own doing. But the fevered pitch with which the gossip scavengers celebrate her pain is disgusting indeed.
