I guess I am 50% ideologue/ 50% pragmatist. Although I want Fred Thompson to be the nominee, barring a South Carolina miracle (and who am I to deny the possibility of miracles?), he is not going to be.
So, the question then becomes which candidate do we settle for? After all, it's better to get half our platform than none of it.
For a year, I heard people suggest that it was Rudy...absurd. Rudy is a huge leftward lurch. We seem to have finally put that to rest and now everyone keeps talking about Romney.
I think my position is clear that I believe Romney is not a Conservative, never has been, never will be. Put that aside for a second.
Have you even looked at the polls? How does it help us to nominate someone who will be hammered in November? Romney has unfavorables higher than Hillary or Rudy!

McCain vs Hillary : McCain +11
Romney vs Hillary: Hillary +6
That's a 17 point difference folks!!!
McCain vs Obama: McCain +3
Romney vs Obama: Obama +12
That's a 15 point swing!!!
Romney vs McCain is a no-brainer. If those are the choices, you have to go with McCain.
