The unfortunate answer is yes. First, let me say that Conservatives missed a big opportunity here. Thompson was the only legitimate Economic, Social and National Defense Conservative in the bunch. Now, we have to settle for someone who is-at best- 2 of the 3. More of that in a second.
Fred, the bottom line is that you let us down. Early on, I believed you were waiting for the right time to make your move but that time never came. The only time you seemed to show any fire at all was at a South Carolina debate. You got into the race too late and your enthusiasm never even approached that of your supporters.
In fact, Fred, the word I heard most often to describe you was asleep.
Now, I have always been a realist, rooted in the real world, striving to see things as they actually are, rather than as I would wish them to be. This, of course, separates me from liberals who live in ivory towers with their heads firmly up their posteriors. My firm view of reality will prevent me from pitching a fit and protesting your loss.
Someone has to win and someone has to lose. We all accept that as a part of life.
The only beef we have with you, Mr. Thompson is that your campaign wasn't defeated by a lack of support. There are thousands of Fred Thompson sites out there. You certainly lose because of the *clears throat* strength of your competition. You lost because you failed to ever run a campaign worthy of your supporters and they found themselves having to figure out who was second best because it became obvious that you weren't going anywhere.
Again, Mr. Thompson, we aren't whining. You lost, we got over it. We just feel that you let a lot of people down by not really ever giving a very serious effort.
