A NEWT ONE-THE TRUTH SURGE

CD SALES IN THE DUMPER, ONLINE SALES DON’T COMPENSATE

You don’t need me to tell you why, but I will anyway

Jimmy Z -  CD sales turned so low in 2007 that even the stunning growth of online digital music sales could not turn music sales upward. Why?

Because pop music sucks -  and I’m including in that every form of popular music; hard rock, pop singers, country, easy listening and hippity hop - everything.

It all sucks. If it didn’t suck, I really don’t think my pals in the various tribute bands in Los Angeles would have so much success. But kids come to see Led Zepagain, for instance, because the music holds up so well, and the new music that the business is telling them to like is terrible -  and the kids know it.

Will the music business get the message? Of course not. They’ll blame people who ‘steal’ music. Now, I’m not a fan of free music sharing. I believe the artists should get the royalties they deserve. But the music business hasn’t got the songs or the performers that will convince people that the stuff is worth buying.

Some say the music business is dead.  I don’t think it is, but I do believe it’s on life support.
