A NEWT ONE-THE TRUTH SURGE

This is a dialog I had this morning with a friend of mine.  My comments in red, his in black. --JZ

I’ll check out the site.  Your comment peaked my interest.  Long story short, I’ve already voted via absentee and it wasn’t for McCain.  His age (72) concerns me [eh, sort of – he’s quite youthful for his age. I think his campaign schedule would kill me, and probably wind you!] and I completely disagree with his lax opinion on the immigration issue. [Concur.]  I did vote for Romney primarily because of his current views on abortion and he comes across as a sharp businessman which I think will translate well with respect to turning around our economy. [Again, concur. I will not ever beat someone over the head with my personal view on voting for Romney. I am not unsympathetic.] Although I do not believe that he is a veteran like McCain, I do not see this as a detriment. [Concur, I’m not one who believes military experience is any kind of prerequisite.] I do not get the sense that he is going to be a clock watcher as it relates to a withdrawal. [Nope, and I believe Limbaugh is right when HE says that neither Hillary nor Barack will remove the troops the way they say they will, because they don’t want to be the President who caused the mayhem in the middle east the we know it would cause.]

I was perusing the world wide web last night and learned quite a bit of the Mormon religion.  Quite a bit of what you stated the other day appears to be factual.  I think classifying them as a cult is a little harsh ... mis-guided religion, most definitely. [The word ‘cult’ is a powerful word, but accurate. In terms of being a religion that claims the name of Christ, and goes against EVERYTHING that the Bible says about who God is, who Jesus is, and who Christians are, the LDS Church is a cult. Not OCCULT, which is a different word altogether. And many of us know really good people and friends who are LDS, and this makes it hard for us to take the hard line on this kind of thing.] Some of their beliefs are a little weird, but an outsider to the Catholic faith can say the same. [But, this is the key to it. Your weirdo beliefs and my weirdo beliefs are all tangential to our basic faith, which is in line with Biblical teaching. The LDS weirdo beliefs are in direct conflict with Biblical teaching.] Maybe we can talk about it more tomorrow over lunch, but I’d be curious to know why you think a Mormon is unfit to be the leader of the free world. [The difference here is very subtle, I admit, but I will attempt it: He might be fit to lead the world. I can’t say. He is unfit in the eyes of my faith, within only the terms of the faith I espouse and the Christ I look to, for me to vote for.] I live next door to a young LDS family as well as a half a dozen more in our neighborhood and they are some of the nicest, best behaved individuals. [“behaved” *lol* No question that these are very nice, very decent, very kind people.]
