A NEWT ONE-THE TRUTH SURGE
In the Electoral College, the Democrats are still leading. I am not going to try to dispute that. Yet, the currents have certainly shifted in the McCain direction. In recent weeks, the State of Virginia moved from toss-up to Leans Republican. Now, all-important Ohio has moved from leans Democrat to toss up with McCain showing MOE leads against both Democrats.

All this, according to Rasmussen Reports.

Make no mistake though, the Republicans are still in a very precarious position. Six states are currently listed as either toss-ups or leans Democrat. All six were won by GWB in 2004. They are Ohio (20 Electoral votes), Missouri (11), Colorado (9), Iowa (7), Nevada (5) and New Mexico (5).

To win, McCain must have Ohio and any combination, among the others that gives him 21 more electoral votes. Of course, all bets are off if a number of blue states continue to move his way.

Pennsylvania (21), Michigan (17), New Jersey (15) and Washington (12) among them. This race is far from over.

Interestingly enough, Obama and Hillary seem to have flipped the script and Hillary now polls better against McCain than Obama. Still, with a 49% disapproval number, my bet is still that Hillary is the opponent we want. We will see what happens.
