BAGHDAD - Criminals set off an improvised explosive device near a Sons of Iraq (Abna al-Iraq) council building, killing two Sons of Iraq and wounding four others and one council guard in the western Baghdad community of Ameriyah at approximately noon, April 26.

The council building is in the vicinity of a Sons of Iraq checkpoint and initial reports indicate criminals set off the blast in an attempt to assassinate a Sons Of Iraq council member. The building and five vehicles were also damaged. [...]

Iraqi Soldiers Turn in Weapons Cache
CAMP STRIKER, Iraq - Soldiers from 4th Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division retrieved a cache in the vicinity of Patrol Base Lion's Den, approximately 7 kilometers southwest of Baghdad, April 27.

A confession from a detainee led the Soldiers to the cache buried by a canal that consisted of 80 machine gun rounds, four 69 mm mortar rounds, one 120 mm mortar round, and two bags of homemade explosives.

The materials were turned in to PB Lion's Den for disposal by explosive ordnance personnel. [END]
Cobra Soldiers Look for Tips Leading to Criminal Suspects
BAGHDAD - Weeks have passed since northwest Baghdad rang from the sounds of small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenade attacks. The combined efforts of the Iraqi security forces and Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers quelled the violent outburst, and although many criminals were killed in fending off the attacks, some still roam the streets - living among innocent Iraqi civilians. Iraqi Soldiers Turn Over IED-making Materials
CAMP STRIKER, Iraq - Soldiers from 4th Company, 4th Battalion, 25th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division found a cache of improvised explosive device-making materials southwest of Yusifiyah April 24.

A tip led the Soldiers to the cache comprised of 19 rocket-propelled grenade-7 rounds, 15 hand grenades, 10 60 mm mortar rounds, five unidentified 120 mm rounds, four cases of .50-caliber ammunition, one case of machine-gun ammunition, 10 handheld radios, eight switch boxes and multiple trigger components.

The cache was turned in to Patrol Base Yusifiyah for detonation by explosive ordnance disposal personnel. [END]

Rakkasans Assess Long-term Medical Needs of Fuhail Mujeer Clinic
PATROL BASE YATES, Iraq - Rakkasan Soldiers assessed a local doctor's clinic in Fuhail Mujeer Village, 25 kilometers southwest of Baghdad, April 21.

Dr. Yassen Taha Salemon, from the al-Qarghuli tribe, is the only doctor in the village. The next nearest clinic is approximately 3 kilometers away and similarly equipped; neither is currently able to handle more than minor medical ailments. [...]
Iraqi Army Recruiting Drive Held in Habbaniyah
CAMP STRIKER, Iraq - The Habbaniyah Iraqi army recruiting center received an influx of citizens wanting to join the IA, April 25.

In an effort to enlarge the national Iraqi security forces, the IA has begun recruiting drives to increase the total number of Soldiers.

Rakkasans Find Suicide Vest in Cache
CAMP STRIKER, Iraq - An anonymous tip led to a cache that contained a suicide vest in Mugartimat, about 7 kilometers southwest of Baghdad, April 28.

Soldiers from 2nd Platoon, Troop C, 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, found the vest packed with approximately 24 pounds of homemade explosives along with rolls of wire, blasting caps and pressure and circuit switches.

Explosive ordnance disposal personnel detonated the cache on-site. [END]
Soldiers, Sheikhs Work Together in Claims Process
PATROL BASE YATES, Iraq - Rakkasan Soldiers handled claims from residents of Qarghuli village, 18 kilometers southwest of Baghdad, at Patrol Base Inchon, April 24.
