EVEN SOME LIBERALS GET IT
I am proud to say that Which One’s Pink? and Led Zepagain are friends of mine
Jimmy Z
For what must be the 63rd time, I went with my friend Kim to see Which One’s Pink? The band plays an incredible recreation of Pink Floyd’s music, but that’s not what this story is about.
Toward the end of their 2 hour plus set, Steve Zukowsky, the second guitarist who is also the lead guitarist in Led Zepagain, came to the microphone and asked us to take a moment and recognize a 23 year old Marine just returned from Iraq. Many of his buddies would never return home, and the band wanted to recognize the sacrifice and this young man in particular. They dedicated their final song to him.
Mr. Zukowsky and Led Zepagain have played for the troops in Bosnia a couple of times now. Although these guys are not necessarily conservatives, they set aside partisanship when it comes to those in the military who put their lives on the line.
This particular serviceman found Steve walking through the crowd, introduced himself and told Steve how excited he was to be back home, drinking a beer and watching a concert. Steve took it upon himself to honor the Marine on stage.
At the end of the encore, this hero was invited up to say a few words to the crowd. He was very appreciative, and pretty nervous as he said a few words about honoring Veterans. He said, “whatever war you served in, you served, and I honor you!”
But the coolest thing he said was this: “And if you don’t understand what I’m talking about, go find a Vet and ask him or her to explain it to you.”
Now that’s what I like to see. As good as the music was, honoring one of our military heroes was the best part of the show, and totally unexpected. Thank you Steve Zukowski, Paul Samarin, Marty Brumer, John Stack, Larry Isenberg, Nick Feduska and Dan Johnson of Which One’s Pink? You guys are the best.
