Sunday, July 6, 2008   Return to top The big fear in the Senate is that Democrats could get a filibuster proof majority of 60 seats. That would require a gain of 9 seats. I would have called that unthinkable a few years back. However, let's look at 2006. In 2006, there were 12 Senate races that began the year as at least somewhat competitive. 7 were Republican held seats and 5 were held by Democrats. The Democrats went 11-1 in those races, taking out 6 of the 7 Republican seats. If you want to help prevent a rubber stamp Harry Reid Senate, a good place to start is in these six races, listed as toss-ups by Charlie Cook. I have provided links to contribute to the Republican fighting to stay alive in each contest. Ted Stevens- Alaska Bob Schaffer- Colorado Norm Coleman-Minnesota Steve Pearce-New Mexico John Sununu- New Hampshire Roger Wicker- Mississippi If we can elect these six guys, or most of them, we can prevent a filibuster proof majority and lay the ground work for taking the Senate back in 2010 or 2012. Let's do it. ~Sonlit | |
