I was greatly impressed by last night's ATW guest Media Lizzy. Very well informed, well spoken and articulate. That she has a nice voice and is easy on the eyes didn't go unnoticed either, if comments in the chat room can be believed.
What impressed me most about Lizzy, though, was her strict devotion to the inviolable principles that our icons swore to 232 years ago today. She scolded me for first suggesting that I might note vote this November. Then, when I suggested that I may write-in someone such as Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, George Allen or Jim Gilmore, she noted her disappointment but acknowledged that she respected my decision and that she fully understood the deep frustration and anger that motivated it.
She dismissed-out of hand- the childish and inane argument, by a certain ANO blogger, that one cannot be a supporter of the troops, or this great country, unless they pledge their loyalty to a demagogue, bucket head, ecomaniac who has apparently secured the nomination of the Democratic party....oh wait....I mean Republican. It's so hard to tell the difference these days.
In fact, it appears that -though she disagrees with me on this particular race- Lizzy has progressed down this path of Independence further than I have for She claims a write-in vote for Congress, each time she votes.
As for myself, The first election for which I was eligible was Reagan's epic 1984 massacre of Walter Mondale. Including, and since, that day, I have voted in 17 Presidential, Congressional and Gubernatorial elections. Each time, on each ballot, in each race, I voted for the Republican nominee. That's right, every single time without exception.
My reasoning was simple. The Republican, good or bad, was always manifestly better than the Democrat. This year, I simply cannot make that claim. There is little evidence that I have seen that a John McCain Presidency would be morethan microscopically better than an Obama Presidency. They are, essentially, both sides of the same coin.
I did not come to this conclusion rashly but through countless hours of deliberative, agonizing, introspection and study. The conclusion-inescabable- is that, on most issues, there is virtually no difference between Obama's dangerous naive, ivory tower liberalism and McCain's dangerous naive, ivory tower liberalism.
There were but three issues that kept me from going over months ago.
- McCain claims to be pro-life.
- McCain claims to support the troops.
- McCain claims he'd support Conservative Judges.
At no point, did I feel that this ever made McCain a good choice. However, I thought, on the strength of these 3 issues, I thought that I just might be able to suppress the gag reflex long enough, to vote for him then rush out the back door and find a place to throw up to the point of dry heaves.
Then, I did some research.
- McCain opposes overturning Roe V Wade and claims it would lead to ''back alley abortions''.
- McCain called the Swift Boat Vets "Dishonest and Dishonorable:.
- McCain voted for Breyer and Ginsberg.
In other words, McCain's Conservatism is a complete figment of Jimmy Z's imagination. There isn't a fragment of Conservatism in the man. And yet, according to Jimmy Z, he is the only hope of mankind because he will save us from the unwashed liberal horde.
The madness would already be beyond insufferable except that he has the gall to depersonify anyone else who one might vote for, calling them "fictional persons". Imagine that. Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, George Allen and Jim Gilmore (the finalists for my vote) are all non persons.
3 served in the US Congress and one has a son running for his own seat, 2 were Governors, one was a former Chairman of the Republican National Committee, 2 served in the US Military and all four were touted for the Presidency.
In fact, 3 of the 4 received delegates in this very election year.
Most importantly, there isn't a one in the bunch that isn't ten times the Conservative, troop supporter that John McCain is. Oh.....but they are non-persons according to those who ascribe deity to the Republican party.
Well.
For the first time, in my life, I am saying ENOUGH to the Republican party. There is nothing, of what made me a Republican in John McCain. Nothing.
After watching the utter destruction of this once proud party by self serving, bleeding heart demagogues like John McCain who fight tens times as hard to brown nose Liberals as they do defend Conservatives, I have come to some very liberating decisions.
4 years in the wilderness is preferable to one minute of a John McCain White House. |
